25. More visitors

The baking heat and lack of water brings visitors to the Garden of Ideas. I left a bowl of water for the visitors and yesterday found a white cat drinking from a bowl I'd just filled. It got scared away when I tried to get a photo but I'm delighted it has something to drink. 

The other visitors I'm not sure sure about... Numerous beetles and little bugs. 

 
And this worm I found with it's bottom sticking out of a tomato! There were a few others but they'd either exploded from eating so much or had perished another way. I flung the caterpillar and tomato far way. I've heard that you can spot caterpillars with a black light as they glow in the dark. Soon I'll be night hunting! 

Yesterday I was picking the red tomatoes and found one covered in tiny black insects. I turned over a leaf to find a gaggle of bugs under one leaf. They were transported to the furthest side of the garden. I hope they don't make their way back again. 

And these little caterpillars were eating all the tasty brocolli shoots. Thanksfully John isn't as squeamish and I am and he got them all off. I think one brocolli sprout might survive. 
 



I'm more than happy to share a portion of the plants to feed the various members of the ecosystem but I wish I knew what language they spoke. I'd put up a sign and direct them to their dedicated plants.

1. The School Garden project – the beginning

 How it all began... I started a container garden in our new place in Taradell, Catalunya last summer (2021) and I had no idea I would love it so much. It grounded me during the pandemic, consoled me during my language struggles and soothed my anxiety about venturing out of the safety of our house.  I grew tomatoes from seedlings, strange I know as I don't even like tomatoes but I loved seeing them develop more leaves, a flower and a tiny tomato! I watched them grow, and grow, and grow into a forest of tomato plants. It was so joyous.  I'd had a dream to grow tomatoes and chillis to make peri-peri sauce which I eventually did 😊 Fast forward a year and I started dreaming of having a garden made of earth rather than containers. Jim talked about finding me an allotment ('hort' in Catalan), something very common here. 15. The garden has a new name

One evening, while animatedly describing all the events in the school garden, John came up with a name.  The garden of ideas El jardí de les idees I love everything about the name, all that it represents, the collaboration that is now and in the future and all the possibilities 😀 but the aspect I love the most is that when all the opinions come, I can explain that this is the Garden of Ideas. There's no one way of gardening, there are a multitude of ways, ups and downs and being open to something different brings dialogue and learning 🙏
